a) What a home energy saving survey involves
In a home energy saving survey I will visit you and spend up to an hour doing a survey of your home. This will involve taking some overall measurements, looking at the construction of your home, measuring any accessible insulation and looking at your heating system. I will also ask you a few questions about your present fuel bills and how you use your heating system.

b) Identifying potential energy saving measures that will help reduce fuel bills
During the survey I will primarily be looking for potential insulation and heating system energy saving measures that directly reduce the amount of fuel you will need to pay for to keep your home warm. Depending on the cost of these measures, this will give you an idea of what is called the payback period. If it is possible to have the measure installed free of charge then there is no payback period as you will not have paid out any money in order to benefit from the saving. If you do have to pay something then the savings will effectively be repaying that money until the payback period is complete. After the payback period is complete you then have an ongoing benefit of reduced fuel bills. Please note the partial or full alternative to reducing your fuel bills is being able to keep your home warmer for the same cost.
I will also check if you are happy with the way your heating controls are set and discuss any possible adjustments with you. If the heating controls are not set correctly it can lead to problems with either not keeping your home warm enough or overheating your home and costing you more than it needs to.

c) Results of the survey
I take the survey results away and using a computer program will model your home to see what savings on fuel bills may be possible from installing suitable energy saving measures. I will then write you a short report to explain these suitable measures, what sources of funding there may be to help you pay for them, what the potential annual savings could be and the expected payback period. In certain circumstances it is possible to get 100% funding of some energy saving measures and subsidised prices of certain measures are also widely available.

d) Terms and Conditions
Special offer conditions: The potential annual savings are as calculated by computer program and are based on practical measures identified by the survey to reduce heating and electricity bills with a payback time of less than 5 years. The costing information used to work out the payback period will be that available at the time. Where no costing information is available the improvement measure will be explained but not included in the assessment of the special offer. Please note the payback time can often be a lot shorter than five years.
General conditions of energy saving surveys: The survey is intended to give information on potential improvement measures that can help reduce heating and electricity bills in particular as well as give general advice to help reduce energy use. No guarantee is given that fuel bills will be reduced by the estimated amounts given in the written summary. For example, after fitting an improvement measure, the householder can choose to keep their home warmer rather than save on the heating bill or alternatively the weather may be colder in a comparable billing period. It is also the householders complete responsibility in deciding whether to proceed with any of the potential measures and to make sure any contractors carrying out the work are fully competent. This service specifically excludes any indemnity liability as will be confirmed in writing.
