Funding of Energy Saving measures
This page of the website gives a summary of four possible sources of funding for energy saving measures , Warmfront, Warmzones, Energy Supply companies and Insulation companies. The relevant webpage links for further information on the schemes or company offers are also given.
..........................................................................................................................
a) Warmfront.
Warmfront is a government funded scheme, operated by a company called Carillion (previously Eaga), it is only available in England with equivalent schemes operating in other parts of the UK. For elegible households it provides a source of funding for insulation and heating system energy saving measures up to a value of £3500 (or £6000 where oil, low carbon or renewable technologies are recommended), less the value of any work previously completed at the property under Warmfront. Warmfront will though be phased out in 2012 as the Green Deal and associated Energy Company Obligation is brought in.
The eligibility criteria changed in April 2011, you must own your home or rent from a private landlord, the householder or spouse must receive qualifying benefits and your home must have a SAP rating of 55 or under, be poorly insulated and/or not have a working central heating system. Possible energy saving measures include loft insulation, draughtproofing, cavity wall insulation, hot water tank insulation and repaired/ replacement heating systems.
The £300 rebate for householders who are over 60 and own or privately rent their home but do not qualify for a Warm front grant is no longer available and nor is a benefit entitlement check. For further information please visit the Warm Front website or ring 0800 316 2805.

b) Warmzones
Warmzones have been set up as partnerships between local councils, housing companies and energy companies to tackle fuel poverty and improve the energy efficiency of homes in that local authority area. There are five warm zones in the North East region and for further information the web links and telephone numbers for these are given below:

They offer access to a range of energy saving measures as well as assistance if required on claiming income benefits. The cost of fitting the measures is subsidised and can be free for households receiving certain qualifying income benefits.

c) Energy suppliers(CERT funding)
The gas and electricity energy supply companies offer subsidised prices for carrying out some energy saving measures, at present particularly focused on loft and cavity wall insulation, under what is called the CERT scheme. For householders over 70 years old or on one of certain qualifying income benefits, this work can be free of charge. The costs of this scheme are added to fuel bills so everyone effectively pays for this service anyway so it is well worth finding out what you may be eligible for. It is available to everyone who owns their own home or rents from a private landlord. If renting from a private landlord, the landlord has to give their permission for the work to be carried out. The CERT scheme will though be phased out in 2012 to be replaced by the Green Deal and the associated Energy Company Obligation.
